Who is this for? Anyone who can already open a file, type and save, and wants to build real office skills. Every task is marked โ˜… Foundation, โ˜…โ˜… Building or โ˜…โ˜…โ˜… Stretch, so you can stop at your level and come back later. Brand new to Excel? Try Where Does My Money Go? first.

What's Inside the Pack

Three files. One tells you what to do, and the other two are the work. Download them all in the zip, or one at a time below.

Learner Guide

27 short tasks in three parts, with every click written out. Print it or keep it open beside your work.

  • โœ” Check points so you know you're on track
  • โœ” Self-check list before you finish
  • โœ” Handy shortcuts page

Excel Starter File

Forty October orders for a small office supplies business, a product price list and an empty Summary sheet.

  • โœ” Columns waiting for your formulas
  • โœ” GST rate kept in one labelled cell
  • โœ” Ready-made data, no typing it in

Word Draft Report

A rough first draft of the monthly sales report. Every line looks the same, and the numbers are missing.

  • โœ” Spelling mistakes to find
  • โœ” A wrong business name to replace
  • โœ” Gaps for your Excel figures

How It Works

Three parts. Do them in one long sitting or across three shorter ones.

  1. 1

Work out the numbers in Excel

Calculate subtotals, GST and totals for every order. Type =K2*Summary!$B$3 to find the GST, and learn why those dollar signs matter. Then look up product names with VLOOKUP, flag bulk orders with IF, and build a summary with SUMIF and COUNTIF.

  2. 2

Turn the draft into a proper report in Word

Fix the spelling, swap the business name everywhere with Find and Replace, apply heading styles, add lists, a header and footer, page numbers, a cover page and an automatic table of contents.

  3. 3

    Bring them together

Fill in the report with your Excel figures, paste in your summary table and chart, add a caption, and save the finished report as a PDF. This is the part most courses skip, and the part you'll use most at work.

Works best in Microsoft Word and Excel (2016 or later, or Microsoft 365).

Check Your Key Figures

Finished Part 1? If your Summary sheet shows these four numbers, your formulas are on track.

40

Number of orders

294

Total items sold

$1,016.60

Total GST

$11,182.60

Total sales inc GST

Different number? Check that your GST formula uses $B$3, and that your ranges stop at row 41.
